This NZ grocery price comparison app could save you big bucks on your weekly shop

I get the feeling some supermarkets aren't going to like this…

Whether you’re food shopping for yourself, as a flat, in a couple or feeding the whole family, finding cost effectiveness in the supermarket can be so tough at the moment.  Thankfully, there are some clever Kiwis out there that are trying to change that, creating a game-changing app in a cost of living crisis.

Grosave is designed to save you money by comparing New Zealand supermarket prices.

One of the best things the app offers is a way for Kiwis to have better price transparency when choosing where to shop - which might be one the only ways to fight back against a system that has us questioning if we can afford a block of cheese.

Here’s a crash course on how it works:

Right from the homepage, you can set your location and see all the biggest sales in your city or store. If you have a specific store in mind, you can filter by that and see what’s actually worth grabbing.

No more aimlessly wandering through aisles hoping to find a bargain.

Specific item you’re after? Don’t worry, they’re all over it. You can search a product’s name or scan a barcode in the store, and find out how much it costs at different locations.

Not only this, but you can also look at its price history, to know when your item is the cheapest it could be. Smart shopping 101.

If you are fortunate enough to live in an area where you’re spoiled for supermarket choices, you can select specific stores and Grosave will order them from highest to lowest prices.

You’ll never go to the most expensive shop unknowingly ever again.

If you know what products you want in your weekly shop but don’t know the best place to go, you can punch in all your items in a shopping list, and it’ll compare the prices of all these items across your stores, and give you the overall cheapest.

Similarly, if you have a recipe in mind, you can punch in what you’ll need and Grosave will find the cheapest way to make it happen.

Think it’s done? Not quite yet! If you’re after a specific item and are waiting until it’s cheap enough to buy,  you can add items to your alert page to be sent a notification when it matches a price you find suitable (you can set this threshold yourself!)

With so many bells and whistles, thank God it's super user friendly - there are even tutorials available for first timers - and you can access it on your phone or as a website.

My grocery shopping mission tonight just got so much easier.
